Seattle Mid-Century Condo Remodel

Seattle, Washington

When my clients purchased this two-bedroom condo, little had changed since it was built in 1963 – just after the World’s Fair in Seattle. True to kitchen design at that time, it was walled off with walnut panels and a sliding door. The appliances didn’t work, it was lacking storage and counter space, and overall the space was cramped and closed off from the rest of the condo – and the view.

The homeowners love to cook and entertain, so we knew the original kitchen needed a complete overhaul. To pay homage to its mid-century modern roots while adding in my client’s own eclectic flair, we added warm walnut and a sage green paint and slatted wood and sliding doors that give us a nod to the past while squarely planting a foot in the future. We doubled the size of the kitchen in the process. In addition, an unused nook near the dining room was turned into a bar.
